A compound is a grouping of part numbers that perform a specific function. For example a valve compound can be made up of a valve, a bonnet and an actuator. The main part number is identified as the compound parent and the other parts are compound children. The children's part numbers reference the parent part number in the basket structure.
The application handles several types of compounds:
· The RealTime Configurator generates Data-driven Compounds. For certain models, driven by certain selections, a need for other models and parts are brought up and have to be configured. When saving the configuration, two or more line items are added to the quote. The items are identified as a Data-driven Compound. No additional children can be added to a Data-driven Compound.
· Users can define their own combination of models and parts, which is identified as a User Defined Compound.
· Automatic Compounds come in from the model configurator as parent/child(ren) and do not depend on the model's selection, the automatic child is always part of the configuration.

1 A child line item can reference only one parent.
2 A parent line item cannot be a child of another parent item: compound item nesting goes only one level deep.
1 Reassign Compound Children to another item as parent.
2 Reset all items in the compound to single line items (Undo).
NOTE: If a required compound child is deleted from a Data-driven Compound, the entire configuration is deleted.
1 Reassign required or automatic children to another item as parent.
2 Reset all items in the compound to single line items (Undo).
NOTE: If a required child is deleted from an Automatic Compound, the Update function will add it to the compound again.
1 Assign more Line items to a compound.
The line item(s) will be added at the end of the compound. The line item list will be rearranged and renumbered as necessary.
2 Reassign compound children to another item as parent.
The child or children will be moved to appear with the new compound. The line item list will be rearranged and renumbered as necessary.
3 Reset all line items from a compound to single parts (Undo command).
4 Remove line items from a compound and keep them in the quote as single line items.
The children will be appended at the end of the quote as single line items.
5 Delete compound children from the quote.
To avoid factory problems on User Define compounds you must remove the user defined compound before placing the order.
· On the RealTime Configurator, select the required compound children when prompted. Once you save the item to your basket, the compound parent and its children are added to your basket and display as a compound
